Tools You Will Need:
medium mixing bowl
small mixing bowl
frying pan
small saucepan
cup measure
tsp. measure
tbsp. measure
paper towels for draining
Ingredients:
For the Fried Dough
1-¼ C warm water
½ tsp. granulated sugar
½ tsp. active dry yeast tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. salt
2 C flour
peanut oil for frying

For the Syrup
1-½ C sugar
2 C water
1 tsp.. freshly squeezed lemon juice

Directions:
Fried Dough

1.
In small bowl, mix warm water and yeast until yeast is dissolved.

2.
Let yeast sit for about 10 minutes.

3. Mix flour and salt in medium size bowl.

4. Add yeast to flour and mix until mixture becomes dough.

5. Set in a warm place, cover with a clean towel, and let rise until doubled in size (1-1-½ hours.)

6. Heat ½ C oil in frying pan.

7. Using a tbsp., spoon dough into oil and fry on each side until golden brown (1-½  to 2 minutes).

8. Drain on paper towels.

Syrup

1. Put sugar and 2 C water in saucepan.

2. Bring to a quick boil and immediately lower heat to a simmer.

3. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, until it becomes very syrupy.

4. Add lemon juice and bring back to a boil and immediately remove from heat.

5. Pour over fried dough balls or put syrup in a separate bowl.



Best Served With: Black Coffee
