Chicken Shawarma Recipe from the Middle East

Here is an interesting way of serving chicken. You can use dark
or white meat for this recipe, depending on your preferences.
The chicken shawarma dish is served with tahini paste

Tools You Will Need:

  Large saucepan with cover
  Mixing spoon
  Large bowl with a cover (you can use saran wrap)
  Medium bowl
  9x11 metal baking pan
  1 cup
  1 tsp
  1 tbsp

Ingredients:
 
  lbs chicken breast or thighs, thinly sliced
  2 garlic cloves, minced
  ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  ½ tsp paprika
  ½ tsp cumin
  ¾ tsp mace
  A pinch of salt
  2-3 tbsp lemon juice
  ½ cup plain yogurt (substitute with Greek yogurt for a stronger taste)

  1. Prepare tahini paste or used a bought one.

  2. Preparing the chicken:

     Place chicken slices in a large bowl. In a small bowl, combine the   
     spices the salt and garlic cloves.

     Add the yogurt and the lemon juice and mix thoroughly. Spoon the
     mixture over the lamb meat.

     Make sure the meat is coated with the sauce. Cover and refrigerate for
     at least 8 hours so the flavors develop.

  3. Finishing up:

      In a lightly greased saucepan, brown the marinated meat with constant 
      stirring.

      Cover and cook for approximately 30 minutes on a medium heat.
      Occasionally check for doneness.

      If the mixture appears dry, add 1-2 tbsp of water.
